The new Continental GT has been designed and handmade in the UK and offers a new look, more power and technology, squeezed into a lighter package than its predecessor. “Today is a crucial moment for Bentley cars today. We are building on our recent success story and looking forward to the future with a new car that will set new standards in the Grand Tour.
It is now 80 kg lighter and good weight distribution, it has been made possible as the engine has been moved back into the frame, which improves riding and handling. There are four driving styles – sport, comfort, Bentley and custom – that changes the characteristics behind the wheel. These improvements are welcome unduly, but the main feature of the new 2020 Bentley Continental GT is the interior redesign. The Bentley team created a central console that rotates between three different faces, the license plate reminds us of the James Bond car in Goldfinger.
The three screens that can be switched are the 12.3-inch touch screen home, and there are analog gauges (chronometer, compass and temperature dial) or rather a piece of veneer that completely disguises everything. The Bentley interior wrapped wooden shell help to give the car a distinct appearance as do uniquely designed leather seats. It also designs the design of the virtual cockpit from Audi, which features a night feature designed to reduce distraction and glare. The windshield has also stretched back looking to create more light and illusion than space inside the cabin.
Bentley is basing its new 2020 Bentley Continental GT on the upcoming SIP platform that will be used throughout the Volkswagen range products, including the next Porsche Panamera. This means that you can expect the excellent refinement and comfort of the current car to be transported through, although the use of aluminum in construction should make the new model much lighter than previous generations that target performance and efficiency. Bentley Engine has launched a 6.0-liter W12 upgrade in Bentaiga and this will be the main engine in Continental GT.
The new will probably produce over 600hp and should give a devastating performance with lower fuel economy compared to the current version. There should be an updated version of the current 4.0 liter V8 turbo engine, possibly followed by a hybrid engine capable of producing more than 400 horsepower while using very little fuel.
All signs refer to the new Bentley Continental GT which will be sold in 2020, but Bentley will be careful not to rush into what has traditionally been the biggest selling model. It seems unilaterally that Bentley will charge anything less than £150,000 for the new 2020 Bentley Continental GT – a figure that represents a relatively small increase on the current model. However, most Bentleys do not leave the showroom without options costing many thousands of pounds so the W12 version may end up costing up to £200,000.
